Charlie Hall - Inducted March 31, 2012
|
Charlie Hall, with a career that has spanned over 40 years, was the first person to be inducted into the Rhode Island Comedy Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration in 1978, Charlie jumped into the world of stand-up comedy, and did pretty well. He made national television appearances on The Joan Rivers Show, An Evening At The Improv, Caroline's Comedy Hour, The MTV Half-Hour Comedy Hour and many others. And he was also a semi-finalist on Star Search. Along the way he was the opening act for stand-up legends like Jerry Seinfeld, Sam Kinison, and Jon Stewart and even warmed up the crowd for musical acts like Chicago and Reba McIntire. In Rhode Island, he is probably best known as the creator of the long running cabaret comedy show Ocean State Follies and more recently a comedy-skit show with Doreen Collins called Aging Disgracefully. But Charlie's entertainment career doesn't end there. He is also an adward winning cartoonist and sketch artist. In fact, he is the one who designed all of the caricatures for each of the RICHOF inductees. And as if that wasn't enough, Charlie showed just how Rhode Island he is in 1995 when he wrote the song "Rhode Island, It's For Me" which is the official state song of Rhode Island. |
